History of Pokhara City:

Pokhara comes from the Nepalese word (Pokhari) which means pond. It truly captures the city with some ponds or lakes. The Pokhara moreover lies on the older trading route between India and China.

In the seventeenth century, Pokhara was a piece of Chaubise Rajya (it means twenty-four kingdoms of Nepal), annexed by Prithivi Narayan Shah Dev. The King of Gorkha in 1786, A Prithivi Narayan Shah Dev went on to conquer numerous other smaller kingdoms to form the modern of Nepal.

The report signifies that the first settlement in Pokhara occurred in the 14th century when the king of Kaski established his winter capital at Batulechur on the northern side of the Pokhara valley.

The inhabitants gradually increased, and the last kind of Kaski brought around the 16 Newari families from Kathmandu. In the early days, Pokhara was settled by Gurung, Magars, and Chhetirs and these ethnicities still form the popularity of the population.

After the capture of Tibet by China several Tibetans fleeing Tibet used Pokhara as a transit point and even today there are four Tibetan camps here. The Siddhartha Highway opened in 1968 and associated Kathmandu to Pokhara.

Religions and Temples:

A long time ago, Nepal was only a Hindu kingdom, but now we have all mixed religions. Most of the Gurungs, Sherpas, Magars, and Rais peoples follow the Born Po Buddhists and other cast peoples like Newaries, Bharams, Chhetris, and others peoples follow the Hindus but, in the city areas at this moment, you can see the various religions like Hindus, Buddhist, Christine and Muslim as well.

Humans are religious by nature. However, it is no surprise that there are numerous places of worship in Pokhara Valley. The major temples are Tal Bharahi, Bindyabasini, Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, Radha Krishna, Bhadrkali, Bhimsen, Kedareshwar, and many more etc.
