The Makalu base camp trek is located in the Makalu Barun National Park, covering an area of 2,330 square kilometers. It extends across the Solukhumbu and Sankhuwasabha districts in the eastern part of Nepal. Is physical fitness required for the Makalu Base Camp trek? 

The trek to Makalu Base Camp reaches an altitude of 5,100 meters (16,732 feet), covering a long distance. It is somewhat more challenging compared to other treks in Nepal. However, during the trekking season, hundreds of trekkers complete this trek with the guidance of a guide, making it safer. Is a Permit required? What is the cost of a permit for the Makalu base camp trek? 

You need a permit because the Makalu base camp trek is in Makalu Braun National Park. Although, you need a Permit from Makalu Barun National Park and Trekker’s Information Management System. 

• Makalu Braun National Park Conservation Area permit:- Rs,1500 for SAARC citizen and RS,3000 for other citizens . 
• Trekker’s Information Management System(TIMS) :- Rs, 1000 for SAARC citizen and RS, 2000 for other citizens.
